Dora Alzamora Good ____________________________________

Dora is a third generation artist with North and South American roots. She is self- taught on the potters wheel although her grandmother was a ceramicist and had a studio in Florida with her mother and aunt. The rest of her family is linked to the art world through different disciplines like sculpture and painting. It could be said that being an artist is a family tradition.

Dora works with stoneware clay and fires to high temperatures. Her studio practices includes research and experimentation with glazes as well as working with different firing techniques to achieve a range of surfaces and textures. Having converted an electric kiln into a gas kiln and after many firings she has learnt to let the flame work in her favor in order to develop one of a kinda pieces. Her inspiration comes from nature and she has learnt how to work with the clay even manipulating and altering it into the organic forms and textures that she is inspired by.

“I feel that my work is a quest to express the balance of nature and time.I am attracted to objects that provoke an emotional reaction or sentiment, for example nostalgia.I try to achieve evoke sentiments through shape, form, texture, and color. This process is both conscious and unconscious, I don”t like to over-think too much when I am making a piece, I want it to have spontaneity. The goal is not to achieve perfection but like nature itself; the imperfect perfection, the crudely refined, the line and the curve, the space or the lack of it. I find amazing the entire process of transforming the earth into an object of beauty that will one day hopefully outlive its creator”.

(1986- ) Born in Palma De Mallorca, Spain. Currently living and working in Mallorca.
